Defrost meat in the refrigerator:

Plan ahead for defrosting meat in the refrigerator since it will take time. Leave Tri Tip in vacuum sealed plastic bag. Defrost the meat for a full 24 hours. Cook meat within 3-5 days of thawing.

Defrost meat using cold water for a faster method of thawing:

Keep Tri Tip in the plastic bag it arrived in. Submerge the bag with the meat in cold water and change the water every 30 minutes – the frozen meat will decrease the temperature of the water, slowing the thawing process if the water is not changed. Defrosts in approximately 1 to 2 hours. Remove from bag and cook the meat immediately.
